Message from Your Eastern Region President
Dear Eastern Region Family,
The health of our Eastern Region family is of primary importance to us. Like you, we are following the outbreak of COVID-19 and following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Simultaneously, many of you are working directly with your organizations to rework and refresh policies regarding teleworking, concern for social distancing, and reassuring our workforce that you are monitoring the situation and have their best interest at heart. This work is so crucial at this moment, when we are called upon to apply our skills and knowledge to help protect our fellow citizens. Knowing that we need to be proactive and limit the liability that comes with waiting, we have made the decision to cancel this year’s conference.I want you to know that this decision was not reached lightly. However, without having a crystal ball in our hands, we must make the best decision based on the information we have right now.
We are also looking at all options regarding the conference for 2021 and should have some news to you within a few weeks.
At this time, we are also investigating options for holding the business portion of our conference so that we can carry out elections, as well as other pieces of our meeting. We have a working group of the board looking into the options and steps that are necessary to accomplish this. Information will be forthcoming in early April.
Please know that if you have paid for your registration fees, your monies will be reimbursed. We are working on this process now and should have your refunds in process by early next week.
If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to me directly. I am saddened that I will not get to see my IPMA “family” in May, but I know that making this decision early alleviates the burden of “not knowing” what to do next.
On behalf of our Board members, I want to express our sincere appreciation to the Connecticut Chapter, Jeremy Kushner, Kim Barberi and Mark Van Bruggen for all of their hard work this year. You are all the best!
Take care and be safe!
Ileana Turner, IPMA-SCP
